1990 Served in the reserve. When I graduated from high school in June of 1953, I went on active duty and went through boot camp at Parris Island, SC. I attended Drill Instructor School in October 1953 and served as a DI until I was reassigned to the Marine Detachment, Naples, Italy in January, 1954. Back to Parris Island as a DI until December of 1956 where I completed my enlistment as a sergeant. The remainder of my military service was in the Air National Guard and the Coast Guard Reserve. I retired from the Coast Guard Reserve in 1990 with the rank of Chief Petty officer. I completed twenty-one years of active and reserve time. * Retired ( 7 / 2008) |

* US Army, 1949 - 1952 I was assigned to a radar section at Fort Lewis Washington, the 2nd infantry Division 37th field Artillery branch. On June 25th, 1950 the War broke out and I was shipped out to Korea. After 11months and 4 days of almost continuous fighting. I received my orders for home. I was then sent to Pine Camp N.Y. which was re-named Camp Drum a couple of months later. Then the Army sent me down to West Point N.Y. to train the cadets in phases of Artillery. * Retired ( 7 / 2008) |

The highest rank achieved was e-6 (Tech Sergeant); I was a
radio-intercept operator and analyst; I acquired a "cryptographic
security clearance", the highest attainable. I got my basic
training in San Antonio, Texas and professional schooling in Biloxi,
Mississippi. Was assigned to Clark Air Base, Manila, Philippines
for 1 1/2 years then on to San Angelo, Texas for NCO school for 3
months; I was then assigned to Karamersel Air/Navy base near
Istanbul, Turkey for 1 1/2 years.
