American Legion Baseball

American Legion Post 2 selected to Host
NorthEast Regional Baseball Tournament

INDIANAPOLIS (May 9, 2007)
Bristol, CT will be the site of the of American Legion Baseball Northeast Regional Tournament, August 14-18, 2008.  The American Legion will be celebrating its 82nd season as the nation’s oldest baseball program for 15 to 19 year-olds. The National Executive Committee of the 2.7-million member American Legion announced at it's annual Spring Meeting held in Indianapolis that Legion Tournament Baseball Commission will host and play in the double elimination tournament.  The five-day event will showcase state championship teams from Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Rhode Island, and Vermont. American Legion National Americanism Commission Chairman Joseph E. Caouette Jr. said, "Bristol Post 2 and Muzzy Field will be an outstanding site for the tournament".  CT has a very active American Legion Baseball program. Bristol also has strong community support and excellent organizing committee. Muzzy Field is one the top ball parks in the country.  The players and coach will be excited with the opportunity to play at this stadium. Organizers for the nation's largest veteran's organization expect the tournament to boost the Bristol economy with 10,000 fans, and 350 motel-room nights required at this tournament.  Bristol business should realize a quarter of a million dollars in retail spending. Over half  of today’s Major Leaguers got their start in American Legion Baseball.  More than nearly fifty former American Legion Baseball players have been inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame located in Cooperstown, NY including Tony Gywnn, Carl Yastrzemski, Wade Boggs, Paul Molitor, Gary Carter, Eddie Murray, Dave Winfield, Sparky Anderson, Carlton Fisk, Bob Feller, Brooks Robinson, Yogi Berra, Jim Palmer, Reggie Jackson, Pee Wee Reese, Catfish Hunter, Dave Winfield, Rollie Fingers and Tom Seaver.

Baseball  Muzzy  Field

"..is profound in its mixture of sturdy brickwork and bold green.
It is a serious ballpark with its spacious power alleys stretching four hundred feet
in straight-away center field. It is quirky with home plate facing northwest,
allowing the setting sun to challenge players as it sinks behind the left-center field trees,
most notably the massive, ancient oak that once was in play inside the fence.
Nestled in the clearing on the edge of ancient Rockwell Park,
Muzzy Field is a natural preserve abutted by a modest working-class neighborhood.
To me it has a feeling of quintessential New England".
Douglas S.  Malan

MUZZY  FIELD  is now Bristol's place for baseball competition at State, Zone,
and Regional competition level to enable young athletes to further develop their skills
through public performance at an attractive venue.
The field is located  at  240 Park Street in Bristol.
