"The Legion…..A Place Not Far From Home"

Come with me one afternoon.
To a place not far from home.
This place to some a mystery,
Where I am not alone.

A game of pool or maybe darts,
A joy for all to play,
A hand of cards or cribbage board,
Or horse-shoe toss by day.

At night you'll hear some music,
From jukebox or D.J.
Dancing with your wife and friends,
As your worries fade away.

A cold one sits there waiting,
When your come in from the sun,
And fresh, warm buttered popcorn,
Please sit with us and have some.

If baseball is the game for you,
We sponsor our own team,
With a hot dog in the bleachers,
It'll be the best you've seen.

Some days a place to sit and laugh,
And talk with generations,
People who have given time,
To protect this greatest nation.

We even have civilians,
Who support the Legion's mission,
The sons of former soldiers,
And Auxiliary with vision.

On motorcycles some do go,
For benefits they ride,
Rolling on with unity,
Our colors worn with pride.

The Legion is the place you see,
Where former warriors can be found,
Laughing in their close-nit groups,
As old jokes get passed around.

So if you come to spend the day,
And find our magic place,
Then maybe you should join us,
And keep that smile on your face.

"The Uniform"

Written By Russ T. Trudel

From day to day, we live our lives,
Without a thought ... of why we're free.
But today, I ask for all of us,
To think how that could be.

In days of past, and days of present,
And days that are yet to come ...
Men and women from far and near,
Have ... and do what must be done.

By putting on the uniform,
Of this great country true,
In doing so, they take their turn,
Of protecting me and you.

Whether they stand in peaceful times,
Or times when called to war,
By wearing that great uniform,
They give back so much more.

Some of us have been there,
And stood within their shoes.
And some have not come back to us,
Of them we think of too.

Somewhere out there, can be found,
On land, on sea, in air,
The men and women that are bound,
To give without a care.

Through days and nights of loneliness,
They walk a line ... their post,
While we at home, should think of themk,
And support them now the most.

So as you visit with friends tonight,
Or tuck your loved ones in,
Please stop and take a look around,
At all that they have given.

May our hearts and our minds,
And the strength of our thoughts,
Go with all of them now,
And may it find them safe.
